چکیده

Jaw movement during the open-close-clench cycle was recorded using a Hall-effect generator and a small permanent magnet affixed to opposing incisor teeth. Computer programs provided graphic display of jaw-closing velocity as a function of jaw position (the phase plane) and determined the error between the experimental data and a mathematical model. A large error indicated dysfunction and predicted successful treatment by accepted occlusal therapy; a small error indicated normal function or predicted unsuccessful occlusal treatment. These oblservations suggest that phase plane modelling provides a quantitative measure of joint dysyunction that may be used in monitoring treatment progress and in separating clinically diagnosed dysfunction into two categories-one which responds to occlusal therapy, andone which does not.

A Case Report of Effect of Physical Therapy on Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction Following Mandibular Symphyseal Fracture

Background: Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction following Mandibular fractures can lead to limitation of jaw movement especially month opening, pain, and muscular atrophy. In this regard, the current study aimed to determine the effect of manual mobilization along with other physiotherapy modalities on the improved function of TMJ in a patient with Mandibular symphyseal fracture. Case Pr...

[Analysis of the jaw opening pathway].

We investigated the jaw opening degree and jaw opening pathway on 138 normal subjects and 104 abnormal subjects to make an objective basis of the jaw opening pathway as one of the examinations of stomatognathic dysfunction. As examining the terminal hinge opening pathways we distinguished the initial phase in which the movement of the condyle was considered mainly to be rotation from the second...

Selection of articulator for general dental practice.

he success of fixed or removable restoration directly depends on the articulator selected as well as the skill and care with which it is used. Articulator is defined as a mechanical instrument that represents the temporomandibular joints and jaws, to which maxillary and mandibular casts may be attached to simulate some or all mandibular movements. Mandibular movements occur around the temporoma...

Registration and measurement of opening and closing jaw movements and rotational mandibular capacity by using the method of electronic axiography.

The aim of this study was to register and measure lower jaw movements, to analyse the measured length of opening and closing movements and to analyse the rotational mandibular capacity during the maximal opening of the mouth in the position of centric relation. Our objective was to determine the average values for each mandible and temporomandibular joint movement, as well as to determine the a...

Correlation between facial morphology, mouth opening ability, and condylar movement during opening-closing jaw movements in female adults with normal occlusion.

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between parameters of facial morphology, maximal voluntary mouth opening ability, and condylar movements in 21 adult females, aged between 20 and 24 years. The subjects had a normal occlusion without sign or symptoms of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. Mandibular movements were recorded using an opto-electric jaw movement recor...
